A Perfect Surprise to Celebrate a Perfect Union
Some things deserve to be celebrated, and the anniversary of your favorite couples marriage is no exception! Planning a surprise party as unique and terrific as they are may be a challenge, but these tips will help you along the way:
Remember the Planning Before the Party
Party comes before planning in the dictionary, but not in the real world! Although the party should be an amazing surprise for the couple, don’t let a lack of planning leave YOU surprised on the big day.
Figure out when and where the party will be held before handling other details. It may be a good idea to invite the celebrated couple out to eat or plan a visit on the party date to assure that they do not make other plans.
Once those logistics are taken care of, decide who to invite. To get a good idea of which people might be appreciated at the party, you could start a casual conversation about what your other friends are up to these days. Ask them about their other friends, and make sure to listen to the names that come up when the couple begins to discuss the people they care about. Send invites to these people 2-4 weeks before the surprise so the party-goers will have time to get back to you about their attendance, or lack thereof.
If you choose to make any reservations or book a professional, check back about the services a week before the party to make sure everything is running smoothly, or will be by the big day.
One more thing… absolutely make sure to mention that the party is a surprise in the invitations!
Crowdfunding Isn’t Just for Charities Anymore
It is no secret to expert party planners that costs can rise quickly. To help add some “fun” to funding, consider adding a link to a fundraising site if your invitations are sent by email, or adding a pre-stamped envelope in snail-mail invitations asking for a small donation (around 5-10 dollars). Although everyone may not be able to contribute to the cause, any penny given is a penny that you won’t have to scrounge up on your own!
When asking for this donation, make sure to use polite language, and note your strong appreciation of any help received. Adding a list of items that the money will be used for (balloons, a custom cake, ect.) will let your potential donors know that the money will not be spent in a dishonest manner.
If you have a substantial number of people give, consider buying a special card for those who contributed to sign at the party. When you give the card to the couple, let them know that you couldn’t have pulled off such a wonderful evening without the help of their generous friends and family!
Add a Few Unique Tweaks
There are couples big and small, couples short and tall… couples that represent it all! To make this anniversary party a truly memorable experience, make sure to choose colors, flavors, and party favors that are meaningful for the couple.
For example, one member of the couple may have an affinity for chocolate candies. Instead of spending a fortune on a cake, a choose-your-own-candy bar may be a more appropriate alternative.
Did the couple have a particularly well-planned, extravagant wedding? The adage of “something old, something new” may apply here: use the color scheme of the wedding to bring back sweet memories, while adding a few fresh décor quirks for this party.
Just as each person is unique, each couple has their own backstory. Don’t be afraid to personalize the party. They will treasure this event just like they treasure you: the person who went the extra mile just to make them happy.
Amazing couples deserve to have a party that is just as spectacular and special as their union. Be the type of person to give them this wonderful experience by using a little forethought, and a lot of imagination!
